Earlier this month, I was honored to receive the Howard L. Post Excellence in Education Award through the Greene County Educational Service Center in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I was selected to receive this award by my former student, Lexi, Co-Salutatorian of the 2023 Beavercreek High School graduating class.
The awards ceremony consisted of nearly 40 distinguished Greene County students individually recognizing a teacher they selected as the most influential teacher of their K-12 career. Each student stepped up to the podium and shared why they chose their teacher to receive this award.
Hearing all the students speak about their nominated teacher was inspirational and uplifting (I'm pretty sure I had a big smile on my face the entire time). Receiving this award from Lexi was very special.
Congratulations Lexi and thank you again. I know you will go on to do great things!

(Yes, we really are this happy)
While in Dayton, I attended the spring band concerts at Beavercreek High School and Miamisburg High School. Some of my former students performed in these concerts, and I'm glad I had the chance to see them perform again in person.
Speaking of concert band, [spoiler alert] I'm writing a band piece! The morning after their concert, Matt Frost and the Beavercreek Wind Symphony took the time to read through a 3-minute chunk of my band piece. While I still have a lot of work to do on it, it was such an incredible experience to hear the piece played by these talented students.
Thanks again to Matt and the Beavercreek students!
Did you know that May is International Drum Month?
In honor of this wonderful month, Sheet Music Direct posted a blog entitled:
12 of the Best Percussion Arrangements from ArrangeMe
I was flattered to received an email informing me that my piece was featured in this blog. Thank you so much to Sheet Music Direct and ArrangeMe for highlighting "Cast Off and Fly" and Emma's stellar performance of it!
